Ulwe resident protest against Masjid land allocation

Ulwe, Date 17-06-2023: Tensions ran high in Ulwe as residents, predominantly belonging to the Hindu community, staged a protest against the proposed allocation of land for a mosque. Organized by the Sakal Hindu Samaj, Ulwe node, the demonstration highlighted the residents’ concerns regarding the distribution of land for religious purposes in the area.

The Hindu residents of Ulwe have expressed their willingness to allocate a 300-meter plot for the Muslim community, which represents a mere 1 percent of the total land. However, they vehemently oppose the allocation of additional land for the mosque.

The protest was not only directed towards the mosque but also expressed discontent towards the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) for allegedly flouting regulations by allocating land for the religious structure. The residents raised objections to the perceived bias in land allotment, as 99 percent of the residential buildings in Ulwe are predominantly Hindu.

The planned protest, organized by the Sakal Hindu Samaj, took place on June 17, 2023, starting from the Reliance Jio building at Taru Mata Mandir in Morave Ulwe. The demonstration commenced at 10:00 am under the supervision of local law enforcement.

The protesters demanded that the land allocation for the mosque be reconsidered and urged CIDCO to abide by the established rules and regulations governing land distribution. They argued that the allotment should be fair and proportionate, taking into account the religious composition of the locality.

Police administration was present at the protest site to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of all individuals involved. The demonstration proceeded peacefully, with participants expressing their concerns and seeking resolution to the ongoing issue.

The clash over land allotment for the mosque reflects the underlying tensions and sensitivities surrounding religious allocations in the region. The Ulwe community, primarily Hindu, seeks to protect their perceived rights and preserve the demographic composition of their residential area.

As the protest concluded, discussions and negotiations between the concerned parties are expected to take place to find a mutually agreeable resolution. It remains to be seen how the authorities will address the concerns raised by the Ulwe residents and ensure a harmonious coexistence between the different religious communities in the area.
