Road Tax in Maharashtra Complete Information

Being a third largest state of India by area, the state of Maharashtra is one of the most populated state. The Population of Maharashtra is around 9.28% of India as per 2011. People owing vehicles must pay Maharashtra Road Tax for travelling in the state. The Residents of the state has to pay road tax in case of purchase of vehicle as per the Motor Vehicles Tax Act, 1968. All rates of vehicle and their collection are done accordingly by state authorities. The tax is collected for maintenance of roads by the state government. About Maharashtra Road Tax:

Maharashtra state has the largest road connectivity in the country and highly populated area with 2,67,452 KM. The people of Maharashtra has to pay road tax mandatorily to the government when they buy a new vehicle. Once tax is paid, the people of Maharashtra can travel all across state without any restrictions for 15 years. After the period of 15 years , it must be renewed and updated.

Maharashtra Road Tax Calculation:

The calculation of Road Tax in Maharashtra is done considering various parameters such as seating capacity, engine cubic capacity, fuel type, cost of the vehicle, intended use (private or commercial) and age. There are tax slabs fixed for each vehicle as per the rule. The tax is calculated in different way i.e according to a certain percentage of the original vehicle’s cost. The Maharashtra government ensures standard taxation across all class of vehicles.

Road Tax in Maharashtra for Two – Wheelers:

For old and new vehicles there are different tax slabs levied by the state government. Here as follows:

Road Tax in Maharashtra for other State Vehicles:

One from outside the state, can drive a vehicle for 11 months in state of Maharashtra. Beyond 11 years , the vehicle must be re – registered and need to pay compulsory tax. Each vehicle has different tax slabs and accordingly one have to pay tax.

How to pay Maharashtra Road Tax Online:

Parivahan Sewa website is one such website to pay Road Tax online in Maharashtra. The other way to pay Tax is by nearby local RTO. Here are the following steps to pay online:

  • Select the option “Vehicles Related Services” and then click on “Online Services”.
  • Click the state and then select your local RTO.
  • Enter the registration number and type all relevant information.
  • Next option is payment. Click payment option and download copy of the receipt.

The second option to pay Road Tax is at the local RTO: The documents required:

  • The Registration Certificate ( RC ) of the vehicle.
  • The Certificate of Insurance of the Vehicle.
  • A copy of the Vehicle’s invoice.
  • Documents for proof of address (Passport, Utility Bills, Voter ID card, etc).
  • Form Number (Applicable only if you are re – registering a vehicle from different state).
  • No Objection Certificate.
