Navi Mumbai 21-06-2023: The eagerly awaited Navi Mumbai Metro is now one step closer to becoming operational, as it has recently obtained the safety certificate from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS). The project, which was initiated back in June 2010, will greatly enhance the connectivity of south Navi Mumbai. Despite facing various legal and technical challenges, the project has persevered and is now ready to serve the residents of Navi Mumbai.
On June 21, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) received the CMRS certificate for the commercial operation of Line 1, connecting Belapur to Pendhar. Anil Diggikar, the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the people of Navi Mumbai and paid a visit to the Metro on Wednesday. He emphasized that this achievement represents a major milestone in the history of Navi Mumbai Metro and will soon pave the way for the commencement of commercial operations, benefiting the residents of Navi Mumbai.
MD Diggikar expressed his gratitude to the former Minister for Urban Development Department, as well as the current Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, for their support throughout the project. He also acknowledged the relentless efforts of Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee in driving the successful execution of this transformative project. A CIDCO official stated that the decision to appoint MahaMetro for engineering support was a crucial turning point, while securing a financial line of credit amounting to ₹500 crore from ICICI Bank marked yet another significant milestone.
With the successful resolution of numerous obstacles along the way, the long-awaited Navi Mumbai Metro service from Belapur to Pendhar will soon become a reality, ushering in a new era of convenience and connectivity for the city’s residents.
