Construction Minister Ravindra Chavan

Raigad 21 June 2023: In a meeting held at the ministry today, senior officials of the National Highways Authority gathered to discuss the progress of the Mumbai-Goa highway. Construction Minister Ravindra Chavan presided over the meeting, emphasizing the urgency of completing the unfinished work and opening the route for the people of Konkan at the earliest. The Mumbai-Goa Highway is a project under the purview of the Union government and is part of the larger Mumbai-Kanyakumari economic corridor initiative.

During the meeting, Chavan conducted a thorough review of the incomplete sections of the Mumbai-Goa highway with the attending officials. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the sluggish pace of construction between Aroli and Kate, as well as Kate and Khed, which are part of the ongoing package for the highway. Chavan sought explanations from the officials regarding the delays and promptly addressed the technical and financial challenges hindering progress. He urged the officials to initiate work on at least one side of the route by June 30.

Additionally, significant progress has been made on the Kashedi tunnel along the Mumbai-Goa highway. Chavan instructed the officials to expedite the remaining work and ensure that at least one side of the tunnel is opened for traffic before Ganpati, a popular festival. The officials expressed optimism about commencing one-way traffic on this route before Ganapati by resolving technical issues and securing necessary funding for the unfinished work in the Panvel to Indapur phase. The government remains committed to ensuring a smooth and enjoyable journey for the people of Konkan.
