Chiplun: On 16 October, a pillar at the under-construction site of the Mumbai-Goa four-lane highway in the Chiplun city of the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra collapsed. The people had been working on this building project for a few days tirelessly . Mumbai-Goa four-laned highway is 471 km. It should reduce travel time to about 6 hours. it is expected to support tourism development in uncharted territories of the Konkan region. However, the quietness of the morning was spoilt when a deadly fissure formed in a section of the flyover. The situation worsened throughout the day, culminating in a terrifying moment just after 2: At 00 p.m., the whole bridge suddenly fell down. Fortunately, no one was harmed.
One of the astonishing facts of the incident is the fact that a renowned political figure, NCP MLA(Member of the Legislative Assembly, Nationalist Congress Party) who was passing near the collapsing constructions, nearly managed to escape. The capturing of the scene was scary enough to point out the need for safety measures in a construction work that is also dangerous.This will, however, lead to inquiries regarding the standard of construction works as well as compliance with appropriate safety guidelines. Rescue efforts were instigated as soon as possible to free the people who were trapped below the debris. Soon after, the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
