Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other potential culprits involved in this racket.

The accused were operating makeshift toll plazas on a national highway, demanding money from unsuspecting drivers , stopping vehicles, forcing drivers to pay fees. These illegal toll plazas were not authorized by any official body and served only to enrich the perpetrators through fraudulent means. This incident highlights the growing problem of extortion and illegal activities on our highways. It is a matter of grave concern that these individuals were able to operate for some time before being apprehended. In response to this disturbing development, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued a strong appeal to motorists in Morbi to exercise caution and remain alert while travelling. The RTO has urged drivers to verify the authenticity of any toll plaza they encounter by checking for official signage and permits.

Here are some crucial tips for motorists from the RTO:

  • Always check for official signage and markings: Legitimate toll plazas will display clear and authorized signage indicating the toll operator and the applicable toll rates.
  • Demand receipts for any payments made: Always insist on receiving a valid receipt for any toll charges paid. This receipt serves as proof of payment and can be helpful in case of discrepancies.
  • Report suspicious activity: If you encounter any suspicious toll plazas or suspect illegal activity, immediately report it to the nearest police station or RTO office.

By remaining vigilant and adhering to these guidelines, motorists can help ensure their safety and contribute to curbing the operation of such fraudulent schemes. The RTO has emphasised that it is committed to upholding the law and protecting the interests of road users in Morbi.
