Delhi DCW chief Swati Maliwal

Delhi, June 28, 2023: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has intensified its efforts to combat immoral behaviors against women as Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a youth who was caught masturbating outside a Girl’s PG facility in Delhi. The incident, which occurred around midnight on June 12, has raised concerns over the safety of female students in the capital.

DCW chief, Swati Maliwal, took to Twitter on Wednesday to share the update with the public. She had previously received a video and complaint regarding the youth’s indecent act of exposing himself in public, outside the girls’ hostel. The DCW promptly requested that Delhi Police take immediate action against the accused individual responsible for the sexual harassment.

After an initial notice sent on June 19 to the Delhi Police urging action, there was no response until today. However, Swati Maliwal’s tweet confirmed that an FIR had been filed in the matter, indicating progress in addressing the issue.

In her tweet, Maliwal reiterated the DCW’s commitment to ensuring the safety of female students in Delhi. “DCW will continue to fulfill its responsibility towards the safety of girl students in Delhi,” she stated, emphasizing the organization’s dedication to protecting women from such reprehensible acts.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns about the safety of outstation girls studying in Delhi. The brazen and shameful act has drawn condemnation from various quarters, prompting discussions on the need for improved safety measures for female students residing in the capital.

Delhi Police has announced plans to enhance surveillance in the Delhi Metro to deter objectionable behavior. Additionally, they will increase patrolling in areas after sunset to provide a safer environment for women. These measures aim to address the rising cases of indecent acts and ensure the well-being of female residents and students in Delhi.

The DCW, in collaboration with the Delhi Police, remains committed to combating such incidents and creating a secure environment for women in the city. The recent FIR filing showcases a step forward in holding offenders accountable and sends a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated.

As the investigation progresses, Delhi Police and DCW continue their joint efforts to bring justice to the victim and raise awareness about the importance of ensuring the safety and dignity of women in society.
